Soaring or Stuck
"Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
Tip toe if you must, but take the step."
Once upon a time, two caterpillars caught sight of a butterfly fluttering above them. One of them turned to the other and remarked, "You'll never catch me up there in one of those."
Ever felt like that caterpillar? It's a familiar feeling - the pull between wanting to soar and the hesitation that holds us back.
But here's the thing about feeling conflicted - it often stems from the clash between our desires, beliefs, and external expectations such as societal norms, past experiences, fear of failure, or self-doubt. While one part of us wants to move forward, another part of us wants to stay safe and secure.
The key to getting unstuck isn't to fight against this resistance, rather to acknowledge it and understand it's roots. What we resist persists. If you focus on the problem, it grows. If you focus on understanding, solutions magically appear in front of you.
After my divorce, I needed to get smart about money and fast. I dove into books, blogs, and online seminars, everything I could find, only to feel overwhelmed and confused.
"I really want to become financially smart," I would say to my friends. While the majority of them encouraged me, it wasn’t until one friend called my bluff that things changed.
"No, you don't. You may think you do, but deep down, you don’t."
She was right of course. In that moment, I confronted the part of me clinging to ignorance—terrified that I wasn’t smart enough to understand money, losing everything, being another divorced woman statistic, and even fearing no man would accept a financially astute woman.
That was when I shifted my focus to understanding my money mindset—my fears, it’s origins, and messages from family and society while I was growing up.
I realized that if I could understand and shift my money mindset, then all the numbers, spreadsheets, and financial lingo would no longer scare and daunt me.
As I dug into my past to unearth old patterns and limiting beliefs, I practiced daily affirmations to challenge my fears and resistance and to bolster my sense of worth and value.
I AM financially smart and savvy
I LOVE numbers and finances
I AM capable and worthy of financial freedom
I AM attracting a man who values a strong woman
I AM surrounded by friends who value powerful, smart, and capable women
Instead of dwelling on fear, I centered on creating my future and my desired emotions around money—no matter how daunting it seemed. As neuroscience confirms, our thoughts do sculpt our brain and actions.
The fears shrunk away and clarity emerged. I began loving the learning process, witnessing progress and reveling in newfound empowerment and feelings of worth.
Are you achieving what you claim to desire?
What do you suppose is holding you back?
What are you afraid of?
Are ready to move forward to conquer your fears and soar?
Best, Janet
