I Will Not Be A Statistic!

“Coffee is one hand. Confidence in the other.”

“I will not be a statistic!”, I told myself as I was going through my divorce ‘journey’.

The stats are pretty grim and haven’t gotten much better in the past 20 years. Here are just a few:

  • Women’s finances decrease 41% after divorce - more than twice as much as men’s after divorce

  • Mothers, on average, are paid 74 cents to every dollar paid to fathers

  • 59% of women live paycheck to paycheck compared to 41% of men

  • 57% of women don’t have an emergency fund

  • 50% of women ages 55-66 have no personal retirement savings

  • Women outlive men on average, yet only 28% of divorcing women prioritize saving for retirement

  • “Supporting Family” ranked first as an immediate financial priority for women and second to last for men

  • 70% of divorced women and widows said they’d experienced a financial surprise like secret accounts after their marriages ended

  • Women hold only 32% of the world’s wealth even though women make up 50% of the population

Geez… the odds were really stacked against me. Those of you who know my back story and my Oprah moment, know it was no picnic… but I did make it. I made it, but not without setbacks and stumbles, worry, fear, stress, and sleepless nights.

That’s why I’m so passionate about women mastering their money and helping them to not make the same mistakes I made. I didn’t even have a credit card in my own name when I got divorced!
